Joseph S. Canevello, LCSW

Clinic Director


Mr. Canevello is the founder and Clinic Director of Connections Counseling & Consulting Services, Inc. He works with individuals, couples and families focusing on a number of areas including ADD/ADHD, anxiety disorders, school problems, couples in crisis, parent-child relationships and divorce issues. Mr. Canevello is an approved McHenry County Divorce Mediator, a Collaborative Divorce Coach and Child Specialist, serves as the current chair of the 22nd Judicial Circuit Family Mediation Advisory Council and has been a member of the McHenry County community for over seventeen years.

Joe graduated from Mary College in Bismarck, ND and earned his Master of Social Work from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis in 1980. While in St. Louis Joe was instrumental in the establishment of Kids-In-The-Middle, a counseling agency dedicated to the needs of children of divorcing parents. Joe completed post-graduate training at The Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic where, during the course of twelve years, he worked in the Inpatient, Outpatient and Training Departments, the Professional Services Group and in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Emergency Department. Later, at the Agoraphobia and Anxiety Program of Temple University, Joe developed and directed a program for children with anxiety disorders. Joe has lectured on issues of child and family development, the psychiatric treatment of children, anxiety disorders of childhood, family therapy and team-building at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, Rutgers University School of Social Work, at Washington University in St. Louis and at hospital, mental health and educational organizations across the country.

In 1992 Joe moved to McHenry County and, together with Elaine Jenkins, Psy. D., founded Connections Counseling & Consulting Services, Inc. Joe has served the community as a clinical supervisor for Wraparound Services, the SASS program and the Latino Family Therapy Project of the McHenry County Mental Health Board. Joe provides individual, family and couples counseling and works with children, adolescents and adults in addition to his work as a divorce mediator, coach and child specialist. Joe is an approved McHenry County mediator, a Divorce Coach and Child Specialist as a Fellow of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois.

Joe, an avid golfer and Master Gardener, is available for appointments weekdays from 9:00 am 5:00 pm and on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings to 8:30 pm. Joe can be reached at (815) 477-2270, ext 11.
